After his debut EP last year, I was pretty excited to see where he would go. House music that didn't feel too generic but also not too experimental either. This was a solid landing and while parts may feel a bit samesy and blend maybe a bit too much, overall there are several highlights and exciting tracks that keep me coming back. Out of the good, "car crash", "magic", and "makeup sex" are the high points. At first I really loved "seeing stars" as well but then I noticed that there is a lot of repetitive lyric and melodic use between a few of the songs. Specifically "seeing stars" and "makeup sex". While it appears scattered elsewhere in the album, these two songs use a specific vocal and lyrical portion in each sung by different people that almost sound identical. While "seeing stars" has some musical elements that I really enjoy, I ultimately can't listen to it too often as it worsens the listen of "makeup sex" because its like hearing the same song twice in the same album just slightly different. Because of this I am forced to pick one over the other almost always because listening to both becomes rather boring.
