Gemini- EP

Was a massive Flume fan throughout my teens and early 20's and finding this was almost ethereal. You're telling me there is a whole other EP with Flume collaborative work that has never blessed my ears?!?! And it was just okay. Idk what exactly happened between Emoh and Flume but you can surely tell there was some conflicting musical ideas. Emoh seemed to lean more into traditional EDM of the time, almost what was stale for 2015, and leaned into aggressive drops with random sounds that rotated throughout the drop. "Oddity" is a good example of this. While one of the better tracks, the water sound effect in the drop is a very telling detail about when this came out. Flume had seemed to want to move more in a different direction that we obviously saw with the Skin Companion EPs. It's almost like you can distinctly hear each producers impact. The most relevant one of these is "Arrows" with Dillion Francis. Flumes vocal effects and synths in the breaks and chorus are obvious, then the drop is dominated by Dillion's signature in your face style and then Emoh's influence just is a bit more mundane and not anything of note. I found throughout that the parts that I enjoyed were so obviously Flume that it didn't really blend well with the rest of the production at times. Who knows if this is a case of either of them unwilling to bend the knee to the other and do it their way but the EP suffers from it. "Gemini" is the obvious standout and the last true farewell What So Not had to offer as a duo as What So Not as a solo artist is much better than this. I don't hate it but it's shortcomings are obvious and almost have a crumb trail to where they originated.
