These terms are an agreement between you and Melih Onat, who builds and runs Resonate from Ontario, Canada. They cover resonatefm.app and the Resonate mobile app, which loads the same site.
By creating an account, or by posting anything to Resonate, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use Resonate.
You must be at least 13 years old to have a Resonate account. If you are under 13, you may not create one, and we will remove any account we learn belongs to someone under 13.
Depending on where you live, you may also need your parent or guardian's permission to agree to these terms. If that applies to you, get it before you sign up.
You need to give an accurate email address, keep your login details to yourself, and tell us at hello@melihonat.dev if you think somebody else has got into your account. What happens under your account is your responsibility.
Resonate is a place to log albums, rate and review them, build lists, talk about music with other members, and take part in the Listening Club. It is free. There are no ads, nothing to buy, and no subscription.
Album titles, artist names, and cover artwork come from third-party music services. That catalogue data belongs to its owners, not to us, and we show it so you have something to attach your own writing to. Availability and accuracy are not things we control, and the catalogue provider may change.
Your reviews, comments, lists, notes, messages, and images stay yours. We do not claim ownership of any of it.
To actually run the service, we need your permission to use it: by posting to Resonate you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your content, and to show it to other members, in order to operate and promote Resonate. This licence exists so that your review can appear on an album page and in someone else's feed. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the narrow carve-outs described on our deletion page.
You are responsible for having the right to post what you post. Do not upload images you do not have permission to use.
Resonate has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. Do not post, send, or upload:
This applies everywhere on Resonate: reviews, ratings, comments, lists and their notes, club posts and curator notes, direct messages, usernames, display names, bios, profile pictures, and banners. A username or an avatar is content too.
We moderate Resonate in two ways: we act on what members report to us, and we remove what we find ourselves. No system catches everything, so reporting is how most of it gets caught, and we take it seriously.
You can report a member from their profile inside the app. You can also email hello@melihonat.dev about anything at all, including a specific review, comment, list, club post, or message, and you do not need an account to do that.
When a report arrives, we commit to reviewing it and acting on it within 24 hours. Acting means one of: removing the content, warning the member, suspending them, or terminating their account, depending on what they did. Serious cases skip straight to termination.
We are one person, not a moderation team. What makes 24 hours real rather than decorative is that every report reaches us immediately, and the queue is small. If we ever cannot hold to it, we will change this number rather than leave a promise here that we do not keep.
You can also block any member. Blocking is mutual and silent: you disappear from each other's view across profiles, content, and messages, and the other person is not told. It works on public content and on direct messages both.
Do not file reports in bad faith. Deliberately false reporting is itself a breach of these terms.
You can leave at any time. Delete your account from Settings, then Account, or from resonatefm.app/delete-account. It is immediate and it cannot be undone. That page and our Privacy Policy explain exactly what is removed.
We can end your account too, with or without notice, if you break these terms, if you put other members at risk, or if we are required to. For anything short of a serious violation we will normally warn you first. If your account is terminated for a violation, you may not create a new one.
If you think we got it wrong, email hello@melihonat.dev and say so. One person reads that address and can reverse a decision.
We can also stop running Resonate. It is a personal project, not a company with obligations to investors. If it ever shuts down, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your content first.
Resonate is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that anything stored in it will survive a technical failure. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot bear to lose.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising out of your use of Resonate. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you live somewhere that gives you consumer rights that override this, those rights still apply.
Resonate contains content written by other members. We do not endorse it and we are not responsible for it. Links to other services are the same.
When these terms change, the version number and effective date at the top change with them. For material changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect, and keep the previous version available. Continuing to use Resonate after that means you accept the new version.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally, in which case you keep that right.
